I am an assistant professor of English education at Utah State University. My scholarly work focuses on digital literacies, young adult literature, teacher education, and secondary curriculum and pedagogy. I am interested in how digital technologies impact literacy, literacy education, and the preparation of secondary English teachers. I examine the ways new technologies and contemporary young adult texts enable a more expansive view of literacy and literacy education. I have the good fortune to collaborate with fellow scholars through the Initiative for 21st Century Literacies Research. I have taught middle school English Language Arts, high school English, college composition, teacher education courses, and graduate courses in literacy. I hold a B.A. in English with Liberal Arts Honors from the University of Texas at Austin, a M.A. in English from Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a major in English Education from Florida State University.
